Engine

CAUTION!
The upper section of the bearing bracket is bolted to the cylinder block with two M8 multi point socket bolts which are found in the valley between the cylinder heads. These bolts must not be loosened under any circumstances, because it causes a deformation of the cylinder block which is no longer repairable.

The crankshaft, pistons, and connecting rods must not be replaced! Only removal and installation of these components is permitted.

If large quantities of metal particles or other deposits (caused, for example, by partial seizure of the crankshaft or connecting rod damage) are found in the engine oil, the oil passages must be cleaned thoroughly and the oil cooler replaced in order to prevent further damage from reoccurring.

Engine must not be set down on oil pan, because the fluid seal between lower and upper oil pan is otherwise damaged. To set down the engine, use frame (T10191).

Secure engine in engine and transmission holder (VAS 6095) when working on engine.
