Engine Control Module, Replacing

Special tools and equipment
- V.A.G1551 scan tool with V.A.G1551/3B cable

- Check the Quick Reference for additional information about the Immobilizer III Service Procedure

Work sequence
- Print out control module identification and thereby previous control module coding as follows:
- Connect V.A.G1551 scan tool (V.A.G1552). Switch ignition on and select engine control module with "Address word" 01. (Connecting scan tool and selecting engine control module.)

Control module identification and coding is indicated on display e.g.:

06A906032DL 1,8L R4/5VT G 0001 ->
Coding 07500 WSC 00000


- Print out control module identification by pressing scan tool print button.
- Press -> key.
- Press keys 0 and 6 for "End data transfer" function and confirm input with Q key.

- Switch ignition off.
- Remove windshield wiper arms and cover for plenum chamber:
- Release connector from control module and pull off.







- Press securing bracket (clip) (arrow) to left and lift out control module.
- Install new control module and press securing bracket to right.
- Check previous coding and coding of new control module.
- Match new control module to throttle valve control module.
- On vehicles with cruise control system: Check whether this function has been enabled (activated). If "G" is not evident in control module identification, activate cruise control system.

Vehicles with automatic transmissions:
- Learn kick-down point.
- Adapt control module for automatic transmission:

Continued for all vehicles
- Perform idling check.
- Check DTC memory of new engine control module and erase DTC memory if necessary.
