Multi-Function Transmission Range (TR) Switch, Replacing
Recommended special tools and equipment
- V.A.G 1331 torque wrench (5 to 50 Nm)
- T10091 Adjusting device (vehicles with 09A transmission)
Requirements
- Selector lever must be in -P- position.
- Parking brake must be engaged.
- Ignition switched off.
Replace Multi-Function Transmission Range (TR) Switch -F125-.
Vehicles with 01M transmission
NOTE: Multi-function switch is located at rear on transmission.
- Disconnect connector from Multi-Function Transmission Range (TR) Switch -F125-.
- Remove mounting bolt and retainer.
- Remove Multi-Function Transmission Range (TR) Switch.
- Replace O-ring.
Installation is performed in reverse order of removal.
- Tighten bolt to 10 Nm.
- Erase DTC memory of Transmission Control Module (TCM), Diagnostic mode 4: Reset/erase diagnostic data. Diagnostic Mode 4: Reset/Erase Diagnostic Data
- Generate readiness code.
Vehicles with 09A transmission
- Determine whether a coded radio is installed. In this case, determine the anti-theft coding.
- Switch ignition off and disconnect battery Ground (GND) strap.
- Remove battery.
- Remove battery holder.
- Remove securing nut (arrow).
- Remove lever -1- from shift rod.
- Disconnect connector -2- from Multi-Function Transmission Range (TR) Switch -F125-.
- Remove Multi-Function Transmission Range (TR) Switch -F125- (-3-).
- Attach Multi-Function Transmission Range (TR) Switch on shift rod as shown.
NOTE: Groove -1- of shift rod and markings -2- of multi-function switch must face each other.
- Screw in multi-function switch mounting bolts (arrows) hand-tight.
- Attach and secure adjusting device T10091 on shift rod.
- Bring selector lever/shift rod at the transmission in -N- position.
- Turn switch until alignment bore on switch housing -1- aligns with hole on adjusting device.
- Slide in adjusting device alignment pin -2-.
- Tighten mounting bolts (arrows) of Multi-Function Transmission Range (TR) Switch -F125- to 6 Nm.
Installation is in reverse of removal.
- Check adjustment of selector lever cable:
- Erase DTC memory of Transmission Control Module (TCM), Diagnostic mode 4: Reset/erase diagnostic data. Diagnostic Mode 4: Reset/Erase Diagnostic Data
- Generate readiness code.
