Shift Interlock: Testing and Inspection
Ignition key removal lock, checking function, 09G, 6 Spd. A/T
Note: Work through the following steps to arrive at "Ignition key removal lock is OK" in Step 3.
Work sequence
Step 1
- Shift selector lever to position "P".
- Switch ignition off.
- Remove ignition key.
- Attempt to move selector lever out of "P".
- If selector lever cannot be shifted out of "P", go to Step 2.
- If selector lever can be shifted out of "P" with button pressed:
- Check adjustment of locking cable and correct if necessary Locking cable, adjusting; Locking cable, adjusting. Then return to beginning of Step 1.
- If no adjustments to the locking cable are necessary:
- Replace faulty selector mechanism or steering lock.
Step 2
- Depress brake pedal.
- Insert ignition key.
- Switch ignition on.
- Attempt to move selector lever out of "P".
- If selector lever cannot be moved out of "P" with button pressed:
- Check adjustment of locking cable and correct if necessary Locking cable, adjusting; Locking cable, adjusting. Begin sequence again at Step 1.
- If selector lever can be shifted out of "P" with button pressed:
- Move selector lever to "R, N, D, S" in sequence.
- Attempt to remove ignition key from ignition lock.
- If ignition key cannot be removed from ignition lock, go to Step 3.
- If ignition key can be removed from ignition lock:
- Check adjustment of locking cable and correct if necessary Locking cable, adjusting; Locking cable, adjusting. Begin sequence again at Step 1.
Step 3
- Depress brake pedal.
- Move selector lever to "P".
- If ignition key can now be removed and selector lever is locked in "P" position:
- Ignition key removal lock is OK; checking procedure is completed.
- If ignition key cannot be removed and/or selector lever is not locked in "P":
- Check adjustment of locking cable and correct if necessary Locking cable, adjusting; Locking cable, adjusting. Begin sequence again at Step 1.
