Readiness Code Generating (VW Drive Cycle)

READINESS CODE, GENERATING

Test requirements

- Fuses of Motronic Engine Control Module (ECM) J220 OK.
- Battery voltage at least 11.5 volts.
- All electrical consumers such as, lights and rear window defroster, switched off.
- AC switched off.
- Ground (GND) connections between engine/transmission/chassis OK.
- No DTCs in DTC memory. Diagnostic mode 3: Check DTC Memory.
- Intake air temperature 5 to 40° C.

Work procedure

- Connect Vehicle diagnosis and service system VAS 5052.
- Perform a road test.

The following operating condition must be met during this road test:

- Coolant temperature must be at least 80° C.

Observe safety precautions that apply to road tests.

Let vehicle cool off with ignition switched off until the following condition is met:

- Coolant temperature approximately Intake Air Temperature (5 to 40° C).

- Perform a road test again.

The following operating conditions must be met during this road test:

- Start vehicle and let it run approx. 20 seconds at idle.

- Accelerate vehicle to a speed of approx. 30 to 40 km/h, stop and let vehicle run at idle for approx. 120 seconds.

Note:
- Engine speed (RPM)
- Vehicle speed

- Accelerate vehicle uniformly, without Wide Open Throttle (WOT), until coolant temperature is a minimum of 80° C.

- Drive for 5 seconds at Wide Open Throttle (WOT). Then drive constantly for 15 minutes at an engine speed of 1500 to 3500 RPM.

- Drive in deceleration mode at a rate of approx. 4000 RPM up to idle RPM.

- Park vehicle and let engine run approx. 30 seconds at idle.
- Accelerator pedal must not be operated during this time.

- Read readiness code.

If in 8-digit number block:

- Display position 2: Oxygen sensor heating

and/or

- Display position 3: Oxygen sensors

a 1 instead of 0 is displayed:

- Increase speed at idle to 6000 RPM and then go immediately into deceleration mode (foot off the gas!) until idle speed is reached.

- Read readiness code.
