Fuel Pump: Locations



Fuel Tank With Attachments And Fuel Filter, Assembly Overview

Engine codes APH, AWV, AWP, BKF, BNU







1. Filler cap
2. Oil seal
- Replace if damaged
3. Securing bolt
4. Tank flap unit
- With rubber cup
5. 10 Nm
6. Breather line
- Check for secure seating
7. Change-over valve
- To remove valve unclip sideways out of support
8. O-ring
- Replace if damaged
9. To EVAP canister
10. Guide
- In longitudinal member
11. Breather line
- Check for secure seating
- Secure with spring-type clips
12. Fuel tank
- Support with engine/transmission jack V.A.G 1383 A when removing
13. Heat shield
- For fuel tank
14. Lock washer
15. Fuel tank cover
16. 20 plus 1/4 turn (90)
17. Securing strap
- Note differing lengths
- Installed position: Securing holes face forward
18. Fuel filter
- Installed position: Arrow shows direction of flow
19. Screw-type clip
- Note installed position.
20. Supply line
- Black
- Check for secure seating
- To pull off of fuel filter press locking ring on connecting piece in
21. Breather line
- White
- Clipped onto top of fuel tank
- Check for secure seating
22. Oil seal
- Replace if damaged
- When installing, insert seal "dry" into fuel tank opening
- Moisten inner edges of seal with fuel only when installing fuel delivery unit
23. Fuel delivery unit
- Note installed position on fuel tank.
- Removing and installing fuel gauge sender.
- Checking fuel pump.
- Clean strainer if soiled
24. Union nut, 75 Nm
- Remove and install with ring nut spanner 3217
25. Supply line
- Black
- Check for secure seating
- Clipped onto side of fuel tank
- To remove fuel filter and union press safety ring in at junction piece
26. Return hose
- Blue or with blue marking
- Clipped onto side of fuel tank
- Check for secure seating
- To pull off union press in locking ring on connecting piece
27. Gravity valve
- To remove valve unclip upward out of support
- Check valve for through-flow:
- Valve vertical: Open
- Valve tilted 45: Closed
28. Pressure retention valve
- For fuel tank breather
29. Ground connection
- Check for secure seating







Installed position of fuel delivery unit flange
Marking on sender must align with marking on fuel tank -arrows -.
Return line -1- (blue or with blue marking) to connection marked "R".
Black supply line - 2 - to connection marked 'V.

NOTE: After installing fuel delivery unit flange, check that the supply, return and breather lines are still clipped onto the fuel tank.







Checking change-over valve
Lever in rest position: Closed
Lever pushed in direction of arrow: Open

NOTE: Before installing change-over valve, unscrew filler cap from fuel tank.







Checking pressure retention valve
The pressure retention valve is opened in both through-flow directions from the gravity valve -arrow 1 -.

It is opened only in one through-flow direction from the EVAP canister system/purge regulator valve junction piece - arrow -2-.







Installed position of screw-type clip of fuel filter

NOTE: The illustration shows the fuel filter as seen from the front.

- Install screw-type clip -arrow- as shown in illustration.

Ensure there is sufficient distance between clip screw fixture and fuel tank. Dimension -a- must be at least 5 mm.
