Fastening the engine to the assembly stand
When working on the engine, it should be secured to the holding fixture VW 313 using the holding fixture VW 540.

Procedure





- Move Engine/gearbox jack V.A.G 1383 A to a workbench.
- Lower engine/transmission assembly so that transmission is on workbench.
- Remove engine/transmission connecting bolts.
- Press transmission from engine.





- Remove engine sling 2024 A as follows and lift engine off engine/trans. jack V.A.G 1383 A with workshop crane.
- Belt pulley end: 2nd hole on support bar in position 1
- Transmission side: 4th hole on support bar in position 8

CAUTION: The hooks and locating pins must be secured with locking pins - arrows-.

Note:
^ The positions marked 1 to 4 on the bar must be toward the belt pulley end.
^ The holes in the hook rails are counted up from the hook.

- Secure engine to holding fixture VW 313 using holding fixture VW 540 and spacers VW 540/1 B.

Note:
^ Loosen coolant line on flywheel end first.
