Fuel Tank: Locations



Fuel Tank With Attachments, Assembly Overview







1. Filler cap
2. Seal
- Replace if damaged
3. 1 Nm
4. Tank flap unit
- With rubber cup
5. Ground connection
- Check for secure seating
6. O-ring
7. Breather valve
- To remove valve unclip sideways out of support
- Before installing remove sealing cap
8. 6 Nm
9. Protective cover
- Note installed position
10. Breather line
- Check for secure seating
11. Lock washer
12. Heat shield
13. Fuel tank cover
- Rear cover not for Convertible
14. 20 Nm plus 1/4 turn (90 degrees)
15. Securing strap
- Note differing lengths
16. Fuel tank
- Support with Engine/transmission jack V.A.G 1383 A when removing
17. Seal
- Replace if damaged
- When installing, insert seal "dry" into fuel tank opening
- Moisten inner edges of seal with fuel when installing fuel delivery unit
18. Fuel delivery unit
- Note installed position on fuel tank.
- Fuel gauge sender, checking.
- Fuel pump, checking.
19. Union nut, 75 Nm
- Remove and install with union nut tool 3217 or wrench T10202 (for metal union nut)
20. Supply line
- Clipped onto fuel tank
- Check for secure seating
- Black
- Press lock ring inward to release fuel line of fuel delivery unit
21. Return hose
- Blue
- Clipped onto fuel tank
- Check for secure seating
- Press lock ring inward to release fuel line of fuel delivery unit
22. Distance piece
23. Gravity valve
- To remove valve unclip upward out of support
- Check valve for through-flow
- Valve vertical: Open Valve tilted 45 degrees: Closed
24. 10 Nm







Installed position of fuel gauge sender
Mark on flange must align with mark on fuel tank - arrows -.

NOTE: After installing the fuel delivery unit, check that the fuel supply line -2- and return lines -1 -are still clipped onto the
fuel tank.







Checking breather valve
Lever in rest position: Closed

Lever pushed in direction of arrow: Open

NOTE: Before installing the breather valve, unscrew filler cap from the fuel tank.
