Compression Check: Testing and Inspection



Compression Pressures, Checking







Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
- Hinged socket SW 10 3220
- Torque wrench V.A.G1331
- Adapter V.A.G1381/12
- Compression tester V.A.G1763

Requirements
- Engine oil temperature 30 degrees C min.

Work sequence
- Remove engine cover.







- Disconnect central connector for pump/injector units - 1 -.
- Pull off connector strip - 2 - from glow plugs.
- Remove all glow plugs.

NOTE: Observe notes on ceramic glow plugs.







- Screw adapter V.A.G1381/12 in instead of glow plugs.
- Check compression with compression tester V.A.G1763.

NOTE: Using the compression tester Tester operating instructions.

- Operate starter until tester shows no further pressure increase.

Compression pressures
- New: 25 to 31 bar
- Wear limit: 19 bar
- Permissible difference between all cylinders: 5 bar

- Install glow plugs with hinged socket 3220.
- Tightening torque: 15 Nm
- Read Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) memory of engine control module and,if necessary, correct faults and erase DTC memory.

NOTE: Opening the central connector for pump/injector units causes faults to be stored.
