Heater Core: Service and Repair
Heating and A/C unit, assembly
Caution! Before beginning on the electrical system:
Ontain the anti-theft radio security code
Switch off all electrical consumers
Switch ignition off and remove ignition key
Disconnect negative (-) battery terminal
When disconnect and reconnecting battery terminals, observe all applicable notes and torque specifications, as well as instructions on performing OBD program and electrical system function checks as specified in Testing and Inspection - Procedures
NOTES: Before carrying out any work on the A/C refrigerant system, refer to all CAUTIONS, and WARNINGS in A/C refrigerant system safety measures
Service refrigerant system using Kent-Moore ACR 4 or equivalent
During servicing, all couplings, fittings, and related fasteners must be torqued to specifications
Removing

Assembly
1. Heater core
Removing and installing, Fig. 1
Always use new coolant after replacement.
2. Housing, upper part
3. Evaporator
Attaching inlet/outlet seal, See Fig. 2
Installing seal, See Fig. 3
4. Housing, lower part
With fresh/recirculating air flap
With central air flap

Removing
- Prerequisite: heating and A/C unit removed
- Remove screws -1-
- Pull heater core up and out from housing -arrow-
Caution! In order to prevent damage to heater core, lift heater core only from areas indicated in grey
Installing
- Install in reverse order of removal
Note: Always use new coolant after replacement

- Evaporator inlet -B- and outlet -A- pipes are insulated between the halves of the housing with seal -C-.

- Foam seal -B- must must be glued around circumference of evaporator.
- To allow evaporator water to drain, do not attach foam seal on evaporator in area -C-.
