Parking brake, adjusting

Note: After replacing brake cables, brake calipers or brake discs an adjustment is necessary.

- Depress brake pedal firmly at least one time.
- Parking brake lever in "released" position.
- Remove rear ashtray (center console).

- Remove any plastic components that may possibly be equipped on compensator. They do not need to be installed again.
- Secure the compensator with a screwdriver to prevent it from turning (to improve clarity, shown without center console).

Note:
^ On vehicles with Front Wheel Drive (FWD), the adjustment for the parking brake cables is located on the underside of the vehicle in the tunnel.
^ On vehicles with All Wheel Drive (AWD), the adjustment is located in front of the lower control arm.

- Turn adjusting nut - 1 - to stop so that groove in locking element is covered.
- Push cable sleeves - 2 - and - 3 - together at the same time.
- Back out adjusting nut - 1 - until the groove in locking element is visible.
- Insert locking element - 4 -.
- Pull cable sleeves - 2 - and - 3 - apart at the same time until cables are tightened. The lever on the brake caliper must not be lifted off.
- Remove screwdriver from compensator and actuate the parking brake 3 times.

Note: Following successful adjustment the colored O-ring - 1 - must not be visible. This ensures that the mechanism of the parking brake cable adjustment elements are sufficiently protected against dirt and water spray.

- Check tension of parking brake cables and, if necessary, turn adjusting nut - A - in or out accordingly.

- Turn adjusting nut out or in so far, until dimension - A - on the brake caliper is adjusted to 1.5 mm.
