Fuel Pump (FP) Unit, Removing And Installing







Recommended special tools and equipment
- 3087 special wrench for tank sensor
- 3217 ring nut wrench
- 3307 fuel pump wrench (Fuel Pump)
- V.A.G 1332 torque wrench (40 to 200 Nm)

Requirements
- Parking brake must be engaged or else daylight driving lights will be switched on.
- Ignition switched off.

Vehicles with All Wheel Drive (AWD)

Removing
Observe safety precautions.
Observe rules for cleanliness.
- First determine whether a coded radio is installed. In this case, determine the anti-theft coding.
- Disconnect battery Ground (GND) strap with the ignition switched off.
- Remove rear seatbench.
- Remove floor cover.







- Disconnect 4-pin harness connector as well as supply and return lines from flange (arrows).

WARNING:
- The fuel or fuel lines in fuel system can become very hot (danger of scalding).
- In addition, the fuel system is under pressure. Before opening the system, place rags around the connection area and release pressure by carefully loosening the connection.
- Wear protective goggles and protective gloves when working on the fuel system.








- Use 3087 ring nut wrench to remove union nut.
- Pull flange and sealing ring from opening of fuel tank
- Unclip Fuel Level Sensor -G- at baffle housing in fuel tank and remove.







- Turn Fuel Pump (FP) unit approx. 15 degrees toward left until impact using 3307 fuel pump wrench and remove.

NOTE: When replacing Fuel Pump (FP) unit, empty old Fuel Pump (FP) unit before disposing.

Installing
- Installation of the Fuel Pump (FP) unit is the reverse order of removal.

NOTE:
- Do not bend sender for fuel gauge when installing.
- Coat flange seal with fuel when installing.
- Make sure fuel lines are securely fastened.
- Do not swap supply and return lines (return -blue-).
- Secure fuel lines with spring type clamps.







- Note installation position of Fuel Pump (FP) unit flange: Marking on flange -1- must align with marking on fuel tank -2-.
- After installing Fuel Pump (FP) unit flange, check whether supply, return and ventilation lines are still clipped in at fuel tank.

Vehicles with Front Wheel Drive (FWD)

Removing

Observe safety precautions.
Observe rules for cleanliness.

- First determine whether a coded radio is installed. In this case, determine the anti-theft coding.
- Disconnect battery Ground (GND) strap with the ignition switched off.
- Remove luggage compartment floor cover.







- Disconnect 4-pin harness connector as well as supply and return lines from flange (arrows).

WARNING:
- The fuel or fuel lines in fuel system can become very hot (danger of scalding).
- In addition, the fuel system is under pressure. Before opening the system, place rags around the connection area and release pressure by carefully loosening the connection.
- Wear protective goggles and protective gloves when working on the fuel system.








- Use 3217 ring nut wrench to remove union nut.
- Pull flange and sealing ring from opening of fuel tank
- Unclip Sender for fuel gauge -G- at baffle housing in fuel tank and remove.







- Turn Fuel Pump (FP) unit approx. 15 degrees toward left until impact using 3307 fuel pump wrench and remove.

NOTE: When replacing Fuel Pump (FP) unit, empty old Fuel Pump (FP) unit before disposing.

Installing
- Installation of the Fuel Pump (FP) unit is the reverse order of removal.

NOTE:
- Do not bend sender for fuel gauge when installing.

- After installing Fuel Pump (FP) unit flange, check whether supply, return and ventilation lines are still clipped in at fuel tank.
- Erase DTC memory of Engine Control Module (ECM). Diagnostic mode 4: Reset/erase diagnostic data. Diagnostic Mode 4: Reset/Erase Diagnostic Data
- Generate readiness code. Monitors, Trips, Drive Cycles and Readiness Codes
