A. Emptying a fuel tank more than 3/4 filled
B. Emptying a fuel tank less than 3/4 filled
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
- Fuel siphoning unit VAS 5190
Work sequence
Observe safety precautions.
Observe rules for cleanliness.
- Check whether a coded radio is installed. If necessary, obtain radio anti-theft coding.
- Switch off ignition and all electrical consumers.
- Disconnect battery Ground (GND) strap, See Electrical Equipment, - Repair Group 27.
CAUTION: Secure Ground (GND) wire of fuel siphoning unit VAS 5190 to vehicle Ground (GND).
A. Emptying a fuel tank more than 3/4 filled
NOTE: The fuel can only be emptied to approx. 1/4 due to the check valve at the end of the intake tube.
- Remove fuel filler cap from fuel filler tube.
- Pull cone piece -2- from shaft piece -1- of fuel siphoning unit VAS 5190.
- Using insulating tape, apply a mark - arrow - on suction hose.
- Dimension - a -: 1100 mm
- Screw shaft piece -1- of fuel siphoning unit VAS 5190 on to fuel filler tube of fuel tank.
- Slide suction hose into fuel tank until mark applied earlier - arrow - is even with shaft piece.
NOTE: On vehicles with engine codes AHA, ATQ, AWM, the last 100 mm of siphoning hose can only be inserted with difficulty; jerk the hose a little if necessary.
- Empty fuel tank as much as possible via fuel filler neck fuel siphoning unit operating instructions.
- Carefully pull out suction hose.
B. Emptying a fuel tank less than 3/4 filled
- Remove flange of Fuel Pump (FP).
- Siphon fuel through opening of Fuel Pump (FP) using fuel siphoning unit VAS 5190 fuel siphoning unit operating instructions.
