Control Arm: Testing and Inspection
Lower control arm, checking
Checking lower control arm consists of a visual inspection of the rubber boot and checking the clearance of the lower control arm joints.
^ Lift vehicle so that wheels hold no load.
Visual inspection of rubber boot
^ Inspect rubber boot for:
^ Tears,
^ Holes and other damages
^ Correct positioning of circlips - arrows -
^ Check areas of the rubber boot that are not visible by feeling them with your fingers at different steering positions.
Checking joint clearance
This test will determine if there is play in the control arm joint - arrows -.
^ Lift and lower wheel several times in direction of - arrow - at different steering positions. There must be no play felt or visible in the control arm joint.
If the rubber boot is damaged, the control arm must be replaced.
If clearance is present or the rubber boot is damaged, the lower control arm must be replaced Lower control arm, removing and installing.
