ABS system components on rear axle, removing and installing (vehicles with front wheel drive)





1 - Clip

2 - ABS wheel speed sensor
^ Before inserting sensor, clean inner surface of hole and coat with grease G 000 650
^ Replacing

3 - Axle beam

4 - Shield plate

5 - Rotor for ABS speed sensor
^ If damaged or contaminated, replace with wheel bearing unit.

6 - Wheel bearing/hub unit

7 - Hex socket head bolt

8 - Brake disc

ABS wheel speed sensor on rear axle, removing and installing (vehicles with front wheel drive)

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required





^ Pry lever - removing outside mirror 80 - 200

Removing
- Remove rear seat bench.
- Remove lower side trim from C-pillar.





- Disconnect ABS wheel speed sensor harness connector - arrow A - and press out grommet - arrow B -.
- Loosen wheel bolts.
- Raise vehicle.
- Remove wheel.





- Unsnap ABS wheel speed sensor wiring from retainers - arrows -.
- Remove clip for ABS wheel speed sensor.





- Pry out ABS wheel speed sensor with pry lever 80 - 200 from wheel bearing unit.

Installing
- Before inserting ABS wheel speed sensor, clean hole inner surface and coat speed sensor all-round with grease G 000 650.





- Press the speed sensor - 1 - into the wheel bearing housing by hand until it stops.

Installation location:
Tab - A - faces forward on the left side and toward the rear on the right side.
- Install clip - 2 - for speed sensor.

When routing the ABS wheel speed sensor wiring, make sure:





- The ABS wheel speed sensor wiring - 1 - is routed next to the brake line - 2 - on both sides as shown.
- On the left side, a clearance of approx. 2 cm must be maintained between the exhaust system heat shield and the ABS wheel speed sensor wiring.





- On the right side, the ABS wheel speed sensor wiring - 1 - must be routed between the fuel lines - 2 -.

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required





^ Pry lever - removing outside mirror 80 - 200
- Raise vehicle.





- Pry out ABS wheel speed sensor with pry lever 80 - 200 from wheel bearing unit.
- The rotor can be checked for contamination and damage through the speed sensor mounting hole in the wheel bearing housing.
- If the rotor is damaged or contaminated, remove and replace the wheel bearing unit.
