Output Diagnostic Test Mode
The function "Crash output" is checked with Output Diagnostic Test Mode.
When airbags are ignited the central locking is switched to "unlock" and the Front Interior Lights are switched "on."
NOTE:
- Before performing the Output Diagnostic Test Mode, switch central locking to "lock" (operate Front Interior Light switch).
- Switch Front Interior Light switch to position "door contact."
- After completing the Output Diagnostic Test Mode the central locking controls are not active until the ignition has been switched off and on again.
- Connect Scan Tool. Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes
Perform function "03 Output Diagnostic Test Mode"

- Press buttons -0- and -3-.

Unlock central locking signal
Central locking must switch to "unlock" and the Front Interior Lights must switch "on."

- Press -> button.
During test and assembly work DTC can be recognized from other control modules like e.g. plug disconnected. Therefore, check all control module DTC memory and erase, as follows:
- Press -0- button twice for address word "Automatic test sequence" and confirm with -Q- button. V.A.G 1551 transmits all known address words one after the other.
When a control module answers with its identification the number of stored DTCs appears on the display or "No DTC recognized".
System DTCs will be displayed one after another and printed out. Scan Tool (ST) V.A.G 1551 will then transmit the next address word.
Automatic Test sequence has ended when the following is indicated on display:
V.A.G - On Board Diagnostic HELP
1 - Rapid data transfer
2 - Blink code output
NOTE: If a DTC is recognized:
- Correct DTC
- Erase DTC memory (function 05).
- Interrogate DTC memory again (function 02).
