Windshield Wiper System, Removing And Installing

CAUTION:
Before beginning repairs on the electrical system:
- Obtain the anti-theft radio security code.
- Switch off all electrical consumers.
- Switch ignition off and remove ignition key.
- Disconnect negative (-) battery terminal.
- When disconnecting and reconnecting battery terminals, observe all applicable Notes and torque specifications, as well as instructions on performing OBD program and electrical system function checks.







Special tools, testers and auxiliary items needed
- VAG 1331 Torque wrench (or equivalent 5 - 50 Nm )
- T10130 Puller
- 80-200 Lever

Removing, preparation
- Briefly turn wiper on and off to ensure wiper is in park position.
- Open front hood.
- Disconnect battery.

NOTE: Prior to removing the wiper assembly, perform the following steps:
- Remove wiper arms.
- Remove air intake plenum cover.
- Remove cowl panel and release control modules in left side of plenum.

Wiper arms, removing

NOTE: Ensure wiper arms are in park position and battery is disconnected before removing.







- Pry off wiper arm caps -arrows- with a screwdriver.







- Loosen M8 nuts -arrows-, but do not remove completely.







- Place locating arms of puller T10130 -2- under wiper arm -4- as illustrated.
- Turn spindle screw -1- clockwise until it engages the wiper shaft and previously loosened nut -3- (the nut serves as a centering guide for spindle -1-).
- Continue to turn spindle screw -1- clockwise until the wiper arm -4- releases from shaft.
- Turn spindle screw -1- counterclockwise until puller can be released from assembly.
- Remove nut -3- completely and remove wiper arm -4-.

Air intake plenum cover, removing







- Slide battery cover -1- in direction of -arrow A- and remove.
- Remove rubber seal -2- in direction of -arrow B-.
- Pull cover -3- forward and remove.

Windshield cowl panel, removing

NOTE:
- The cowl panel is attached to the sheet metal panel below the windshield.
- On vehicles from 10.00, the cowl panel is secured with metal clips..

Vehicles from 10.00







- Pull left panel clip -arrow- forwards.







- Pull center panel clip -arrow- forwards.
- Carefully pry up cowl panel and remove.







- Remove screws -arrows- for ECM cover, lift cover and set aside.







- Remove hex nut -arrow- in housing.







- Remove hex nut -arrow- on housing.
- Pull housing from rubber mounting and push forwards.

Wiper assembly, removing







- Disconnect electrical connector from wiper motor.
- Remove M6 hex bolts and washers -arrows-.
- Remove complete assembly.

Windshield Wiper Motor -V-, removing from frame







- Pry linkages -1- from wiper motor crank using 80-200 lever.
- Remove M8 hex nut -2-.
- Remove wiper motor crank.
- Remove all M6 mounting bolts -3-.

Windshield Wiper Motor -V-, installing in frame

NOTE: Wiper motor must be in park position prior to installing in frame. If necessary, reconnect the battery, electrical connector at wiper and operate wiper switch briefly. Battery must be disconnected and electrical connector at wiper must be disconnected again prior to installation.







- Install all M6 hex bolts -3- and torque according to value in table.
- Loosely place wiper motor crank on motor shaft.
- Mount linkages to crank and align so that crank and linkages line up as illustrated.
- Install M8 hex nut -2- and torque according to value in table.

Wiper assembly, installing







- Insert complete assembly into plenum.
- Install M6 hex nuts and washers -arrows- and torque according to value in table.
- Remaining installation of covers and panels in reverse order of removal
- Reconnect battery.
- Install wiper arms.
