Input Shaft Adjusting
Input shaft adjusting, 01A, 5 SPD. M/T (AWD)
(Determine circlips for input shaft)
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
Press Tube 30-100:
Spacer gauge 3167:
^ Depth gauge
A new input shaft adjustment is required when the following components have been replaced:
^ Transmission housing
^ Input shaft
or
^ Ball bearing
^ Clamp input shaft in vise with protective jaws - A -.
^ Place spacer gauge 3167 on 3rd gear sliding gear.
^ Place transmission housing over input shaft onto spacer gauge.
^ Place depth gauge onto transmission housing and measure up to lower circlip groove in input shaft.
Measured value in following example: "a" = 28.50 mm
^ Place depth gauge onto transmission housing and measure up to ball bearing contact surface.
^ Measured value in following example: "b" = 26.80 mm
Determining circlip "x" thickness behind input shaft ball bearing
Formula: "x" = dimension "a" - dimension "b"
Determine circlip according to table.
Available circlips
Determining circlip in front of input shaft ball bearing
Drive rear circlip (as calculated) and ball bearing onto input shaft using press tube 30-100.
^ Determine thickest circlip which can still just be installed.
^ Determine circlip according to table.
