Engine Control Module (ECM), Replacing
Work sequence
- Print out old control module identification, and thus also its coding.
NOTE: If the control module version that is appropriate for this vehicle is not indicated, replace the control module. For current part number for engine control module Parts catalog.
- Switch off ignition.
- Remove wiper arms and cowl.
- Remove cover of protective housing for control modules.
- Carefully pry off retainer bar with a screwdriver - arrow-.
- Release connector from control module and then disconnect it.
- Remove old control module and install new control module.
- Afterward, code control module in "Guided Fault Finding" and adapt it to electronic immobilizer and throttle valve control module.
Vehicles with cruise control
- Check if cruise control is active and if necessary, activate it.
Vehicles with automatic transmission
- Adapting functions and components.
- Adapt automatic transmission control module.
Continued for all vehicles
- Check DTC memory of new Engine Control Module (ECM) and erase if necessary.
- Test drive vehicle.
Observe safety precautions that apply to road tests.
- Check engine control module DTC memory again.
