Wheel bearing, removing and installing

^ Thrust plate VW 402
^ Tube 37 mm dia. VW 416 B
^ Thrust disc VW 412
^ Sleeve VW 519

^ Engine/transmission jack V.A.G 1383 A





^ - 3 -Separating device Kukko 17/2

Removing
^ Remove axle shaft hex bolt.
^ Remove wheels.





^ Remove heat shield - arrow -.
^ Unbolt drive shaft at flange shaft.





^ Remove socket head bolt - 1 -.
^ Disconnect ABS vehicle speed sensor - 2 - from wheel bearing housing.





^ Set engine/transmission jack e.g. VAG 1383 A under control arm.
^ Raise control arm slightly.
^ Drive axle shaft out of hub with a plastic head hammer if necessary.
^ Remove axle shaft.





^ Remove securing bolts - 1 - from brake caliper.
^ Remove brake caliper and hang up on body.
^ Remove disc brake.





Remove multi-point key head bolts - 1 - and - 2 -.





^ Pull off wheel bearing/wheel hub unit.
^ Remove cover plate.





^ Pressing out wheel hub





^ Install separating device in notch between inner bearing ring and hub - arrow - and pretension.

Note:
^ Use commercially available separating device, e.g. Kukko 1712.





^ Press bearing inner race from hub.

Installing





^ Press wheel hub into new bearing to stop.

Further installation is in reverse sequence to removal.

^ Install wheels and tighten.
