Electrical - No Start/Load Faults/Electrical Issues

Vehicle Information

No Start, Load Intervention Faults, Electrical Consumers Not Functioning Properly

Vehicle will not start under normal starting procedure (not emergency start procedure). Load intervention faults and electrical consumers not functioning properly.

Technical Background

The Battery Manager Control Module -J367- may lose CAN communication and prevent the starter battery from being charged due to a software issue. This condition may also cause the On-Board accessory battery not to
charge properly.

Production Solution

Tip:

As of VIN 3D_58001151, vehicles will be equipped with updated Battery Monitoring Control Module (software level 2700 or higher).

Service

Procedure:

To check for proper software level, perform the following:





1. Disconnect On-Board accessory battery (located on the left side of
the trunk) terminal clamps, see repair manual Group 27, Battery,
Starter, Generator, Cruise control, Battery, disconnecting and
connecting in Elsaweb.

2. Remove E-box above On-Board accessory battery, see repair
manual Group 97 Ebox in luggage compartment, left, removing and
installing (Vehicles produced 05.03) or 972, Ebox in luggage
compartment, left, removing and installing (Vehicles produced 06.03 )
in Elsaweb to access Battery Monitoring Control Module -J367-.

3. Remove On-Board accessory battery, see repair manual Group 27
Battery, Starter, Generator, Cruise control, Battery, removing and
installing in Elsaweb.

4. Observe the part number label on the Battery Monitoring Control
Module -J367-.





5. To the right of the part number you will see the software level. If the
software level is 2700 or higher, no further action required.





6. If the software level is less than 2700, replace the Battery Monitoring Control Module -J367-. See repair manual Group 27 Battery, Starter,Generator, Cruise control in Elsaweb, and continue with bulletin.

Tip:

If part number on package is different than the part number on the part
label, this is acceptable as long as the software level is 2700 or higher.
When replacing the Battery Monitoring Control Module -J367-, tighten
the ground strap to 6 Nm (53 in. lbs.).

7. (Only to be performed if Battery Monitoring Control Module -
J367 - is replaced) While the On-Board accessory battery is removed
from the vehicle, use Midtronics InCharge 940 to test battery. Perform
necessary action as instructed by Midtronics InCharge 940 before
proceeding to next step.

Tip:

Midtronics test code must be included in warranty claim for battery
charging or replacement, otherwise, the claim may be denied.

8. Install On-Board accessory battery, see repair manual Group 27
Battery, Starter, Generator, Cruise control in Elsaweb.

9. Install E-box above On-Board accessory battery, see repair manual
Group 97, Ebox in luggage compartment, left, removing and installing
(Vehicles produced 05.03) or 972, Ebox in luggage compartment, left, removing and installing (Vehicles produced 06.03) in Elsaweb to
access Battery Monitoring Control Module -J367-.

10. Clear all DTCs.

11. Restore electrical power.

Midtronics test code must be included in warranty claim for battery charging or replacement, otherwise, the claim may be denied.

Battery Monitoring Control Unit -J367- PID 2708. Battery Monitoring Control Module Unit is listed as Address Word 71 - Battery Charger, when using VAS tool.
