Condition

37 07 08 Feb. 16, 2007, 2011273, Supersedes Technical Bulletin Group 00 number 06-02 dated February 2, 2006 to remove from RVU status.

Customer States Transmission Slips
Damage may occur to transmission oil cooler when customer parks against a curb which may cause premature failure to transmission due to coolant-oil mix.

Technical Background
Interference with engine lower noise insulation cover mounting screws.

Production Solution
Center fastener removed from noise insulation cover and replaced with 2 fasteners before and after the cooler.

Service
- Check Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) for coolant-oil mix.

If fluids are mixed:
- Contact the helpline for further assistance.

If fluids are not mixed:
- Raise and support vehicle.

- Locate 3 engine noise insulation mounting fasteners -A- below transmission oil cooler (on right side of vehicle).

Remove center fastener, fastener mounting boss and add two additional fasteners using the following procedure:

- Remove center screw (save for installation into new fastener).

Using a 3.1mm (approx.1/8th inch) drill bit, apply tape to bit (marking a 10mm. depth):

Tip: In the following steps, drill through cover with enough force to mark the inner panel with the drill bit.

- Facing the right front wheel, measure rearward 99.5mm from the center of original front fastener of cover and drill a new hole through cover keeping same distance from finished edge of tray as original.
- Measure 107.3mm forward from the center of the rear original fastener of the cover and drill a hole through cover keeping the same distance from finished edge of cover as original.
- Remove both outer screws.
- Remove complete noise insulation cover to access mounting boss and install speed nuts.
- Finish drilling the inner panel at locations marked in previous steps.
- Install 2 speed nuts Part No: N90959101 to new holes drilled for cover.

- Remove center boss -arrow- for center screw using a die grinder with cut-off wheel and discard.

NOTE:
DO NOT perform the following re-torque procedure if the vehicle has less than 5,000 miles. (8,000 kilometers). If transmission pan leaks are present, DO NOT replace the gasket.

- Remove rear sound dampening pan to expose transmission oil pan.
- Re-torque automatic transmission pan bolts, in several stages, in a diagonal sequence to 11 Nm (97in. lbs.).
- Reinstall rear sound dampening pan, tighten fasteners to 4.5 Nm.
- Reinstall noise insulation cover using existing fasteners (except center fastener of which boss was removed).
- Install (previously removed) screw into new position.

- Install 1 new screw Part No: N10354601 through cover to new position and tighten all fasteners to 4.5 Nm.
