Malfunction Indicator Lamp

Malfunction Indicator Lamp

The Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) lights up when exhaust relevant malfunctions are recognized by the Engine Control Module (ECM).

The Exhaust Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) as well as the Glow Plug Indicator Lamp are located in instrument cluster.

Glow Plug Indicator Light has a dual function:

Blinking: Malfunctions were detected which influence driveability.

Lighting up when ignition is switched on: Normally appears when starting up a cold diesel engine.

The exhaust Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) is switched on as soon as malfunctions are detected that worsen emissions. DTC memory must be checked in this case --> [ Diagnostic Mode 03 - Read DTC Memory ] Diagnostic Modes 01 - 09.

DTC memory must still be checked if there are driveability problems or the customer has made a complaint but the MIL is not lit, because malfunctions can be stored without causing the MIL to light immediately --> [ Diagnostic Mode 03 - Read DTC Memory ] Diagnostic Modes 01 - 09
