Access/Start Control Module J518, Servicing

Access/Start Control Module J518, removing and installing

Removing:

CAUTION: When disconnecting and reconnecting battery terminals, observe all applicable Notes and torque specifications, as well as instructions on performing OBD program and electrical system function checks. Not adhering to proper disconnection sequence will result in deactivation of Main Battery Switch -E74- and subsequent damage to electrical system components.

- Disconnect battery.
- Remove lower storage compartment on drivers side.







- Push locking hooks of bracket outward - arrows B - and pull Access/Start Control Module J518 -1- behind bracket forward - arrow A -.







- Pull/release retainer -1- in direction of - arrow A -.
- Disconnect electrical connection -2- in direction of - arrow B
- Disengage electrical connection -3- in direction of - arrow C -
- Remove Access/Start Control Module J518 from bracket.

Installing:
Install in reverse order of removal, noting the following:
- Tab -1- must first be inserted upward in guide.







- Then, tab -2- is clipped into bracket.

NOTE: If Access/Start Control Module J518 is replaced, work sequence must be performed.

Access/Start Control Module J518, replacing
- Connect Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System VAS 5051A
- In Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System VAS 5051A, select operating mode "Guided Fault Finding".
- Using the "Go To" button, select "Functions/Component selection" and the following menu options in sequence:
- Body
- Electrical Equipment
- 01- On Board Diagnostic (OBD) capable systems
- Anti-theft immobilizer
- Functions
- Replacing the access/start control module

Access/Start Control Module J518, performing Output Diagnostic Test Mode (DTM)
Depending on market version and optional equipment installed, the operation of the following components can checked using Output DTM of J518:

- Power steering column lock
- Power supply relay - terminal 15, activation
- Power supply relay - terminal 15SV, activation
- Power supply relay - terminal 75X
- Ignition key removal lock solenoid
- Ignition/starter switch
- Access/Start Authorization antenna
- Connect Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System VAS 5051A.
- In Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System VAS 5051A, select operating mode "Guided Fault Finding".
- Using the "Go To" button, select "Functions/Component selection" and the following menu options in sequence:
- Body
- Body repair procedures
- 01- On Board Diagnostic (OBD) capable systems
- Access/start authorization
- Functions
- Access/Start Control Module -J518-, output Diagnostic Test Mode (DTM).
