Model(s): All with TDI PD (Pumpe-Duse) 2004 --> 2006

The TDI PD (Pumpe-Duse) engine requires and must always use engine oil that expressly conforms to Volkswagen oil quality standard VW 505 01.

Whether using a synthetic based or petroleum-based* engine oil, the oil must conform to Volkswagen oil quality standard - VW 505 01 in order to keep the vehicle's engine running smoothly and help prevent the formation of harmful sludge and deposits that can lead to expensive repairs.

Some engine oils which currently meet Volkswagen oil quality standard VW 505 01 are:
Castrol "505.01", SAE 5W-40 synthetic motor oil (available through Castro distributors).
ELF "Excellium DID", SAE 5W-40 (available through ELF distributors).
Motul "Motul Specific 505 01", SAE 5W-40 (available through Motul independent distributors).
Quaker State "Diesel Plus SB", SAE 5W-40 (available through Quaker State distributors)
Total "Quartz 505-01", SAE 5W-40 (available through Total distributors).
Volkswagen Part No: G 052 167 A2, a special 5W-40 synthetic motor oil (only available at authorized Volkswagen and Audi Dealers).

No other engine oil may be used in this engine unless it conforms to the Volkswagen oil quality standard - VW 505 01.

It is recommended that the customer always carry a spare quart/liter oil which meets Volkswagen oil quality standard VW 505 01 in case the engine oil needs topping off while on the road. The spare quart of oil should always be stored in its original container that is securely closed in the luggage compartment. Make sure the container is securely stowed.
