Keyless Entry, Remote Control Inoperative or Poor Range Performance
Range of remote control is affected or keyless entry inoperative.
Technical Background
Antenna for remote control is located in rear spoiler and is covered with foam. At times there may be increased humidity in this area, which is absorbed by the foam. This humidity affects the function of keyless entry system.
Production Solution
Modified routing of antenna cable in rear spoiler beginning with VIN 7L_5D074127.
Service
Verify antenna length and re-route antenna harness.
Remove rear spoiler, see Repair Manual Group 55, Hood, Lids in ElsaWeb.
Remove foam to access antenna -arrows-
^ Measure length of the antenna cable as shown. If measurement is not equal to the following dimensions, the wiring loom for tailgate, which includes the antenna cable, must be replaced.
^ Length = 230 mm (9 inches)
Tip:
Connection for antenna is in the roof along right hand D-pillar.
^ Route antenna cable as shown (top down view) in rear spoiler outside the channel. Use webbing adhesive tape part number D 437S40A1 to hold down antenna cable.
^ Install rear spoiler, see Repair Manual Group 55, Hood, Lids in ElsaWeb, and test range. It should be at least 15 m (49 ft.) from all sides of vehicle.
^ If relocation of antenna in rear spoiler does not improve customer concern, call technical assistance. For technical assistance, select the "Technical Assistance" tab in ElsaWeb and follow the instructions to obtain a 6 digit pin.
