Ribbed Belt, Checking Condition

Perform the following:

- Turn the engine by the vibration damper/belt pulley using a socket.

Check ribbed belt - 1 - for:






Sub-surface cracks (cracks, core ruptures, cross sectional breaks)

Separation (cover layer, belt cords)

Breaks at lower layer

Fraying of cords

Wear at flanks (material wear, frayed flanks, hardening or glazing of flanks, surface cracks)

Oil or grease contamination


Replace the belt if any damage is found.

This will prevent any belt malfunctions.

Replacing the belt is a repair procedure.
