Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1331)
Battery, Disconnecting
• Always ensure the vehicle electrical system is protected by disconnecting the Battery before working on the electrical system.
• Do not loosen or remove the grounding wires from the body. Only disconnect the Battery negative terminal (-).
• The Battery positive terminal (B+) must only be disconnected if the Battery is removed from the vehicle.
• Observe warning notes and safety precautions. Refer to=> [ Battery Warnings and Safety Precautions ] Battery Warnings and Safety Precautions.
• Turn off the ignition and all electrical consumers.
• Remove the key.
- Open the locking mechanism - arrow - and remove the battery housing cover.
- Disconnect the ground cable - 1 - from the battery negative pole.
- Disconnect the positive cable - 2 - from the battery positive pole.
Battery, Connecting
Observe notes for threaded connections of battery terminals. Refer to=> [ Battery Post/Terminal ] Battery Post/Terminal.
• After connecting the Battery and switching the ignition on, the ASR/ESP Control Lamp (K155) lights up continuously. The ASR/ESP Control Lamp goes out automatically if a straight distance is driven at 15 to 20 km/h. This activates the Steering Angle Sensor (G85).
When disconnecting and connecting the Battery, the procedure must be followed as described in the repair information. Refer to=> [ Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting ] Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting.
- Attach the positive cable - 2 - to the positive terminal on the battery and tighten the screw to the tightening specification. Refer to => [ Battery Overview ] Battery Overview.
- Attach the ground cable - 1 - to the negative terminal on the battery and tighten the screw to the tightening specification. Refer to => [ Battery Overview ] Battery Overview.
- Perform the work steps listed in the Table.
