Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Torque wrench (V.A.G 1331)

Torque wrench (V.A.G 1332)

Torque wrench (V.A.G 1410)

Brake pedal actuator (V.A.G 1869/2)

CAUTION!
Brake fluid is poisonous. NEVER siphon brake fluid with your mouth!

After replacing brake pads and before moving vehicle, depress brake pedal several times firmly to properly seat brake pads in their normal operating position.

When siphoning brake fluid, always use a bleeder bottle that is used exclusively for brake fluid.

Before removing brake caliper or disconnecting brake hose from brake caliper, install brake pedal actuator (V.A.G 1869/2 ).





1 Phillips-head screw 4 Nm

2 Brake disc

Internally ventilated brake disc: diameter 256.00 mm

Thickness 22 mm

Wear limit: 20 mm

Always replace pads on both sides of axle if worn.

3 Brake disc

Unventilated brake disc: diameter 232.00 mm

Thickness 9 mm

Wear limit: 7 mm

Always replace pads on both sides of axle if worn.

4 Cap

5 Self-locking 12 point nut (175 Nm)

Always replace after removal

6 Wheel hub with wheel bearing and rotor

Always replace after removal

Replace only as complete unit

7 Hex bolt, 60 Nm

With dished washer

8 Cover plate

9 Stub axle

10 Parking brake cable

Parking brake, adjusting => [ Parking Brake, Adjusting ] Adjustments.

11 Axle beam

12 Right rear ABS wheel speed sensor (G44)/left rear ABS wheel speed sensor (G46)

Before inserting sensor, clean inner surface of hole and coat with securing grease (G 000 650)

13 Socket head bolt, 8 Nm

14 Socket head bolt, 65 Nm

15 Brake carrier with guide pins and protective cap

Supplied as pre-assembled replacement part with sufficient grease on guide pins

If protective caps or guide pins are damaged, install repair kit. Use grease packet supplied to lubricate guide pins

16 Brake hose/brake line

With banjo bolt and seals

Tightening specification of banjo bolt to brake caliper 35 Nm

Do not remove brake hose when replacing brake pad

17 Hex bolt, self-locking, 35 Nm

Replace

18 Brake caliper housing

Do not remove brake hose when replacing brake pad

Removing and installing => [ Brake Caliper ] Brake Caliper.

After servicing or replacing, parking brake cable must be adjusted first.

Parking brake, adjusting => [ Parking Brake, Adjusting ] Adjustments.

19 Brake pads

Thickness 12 mm

Wear limit: 7 mm including backing plate

Pads on both sides of axle must always be replaced together

Removing and installing => [ Brake Pads ] Removal and Replacement.

20 Brake pad securing spring

Always replace when pads are replaced
