1 Cylinder block

• Sealing flange and flywheel => [ Sealing Flange, Belt Pulley Side ] Sealing Flange, Belt Pulley Side.

• Crankshaft => [ Crankshaft Seal, Belt Pulley Side ] Service and Repair.

• Piston and connecting rod => [ Piston and Connecting Rod Assembly Overview ] Service and Repair.

2 3.5 Nm

3 Bracket

4 Vacuum reservoir

5 40 Nm

6 Gasket

• Replace

7 Oil filter bracket

• Assembly overview => [ Oil Filter Bracket Assembly Overview ] Service and Repair.

8 15 Nm + 90° (1/4 turn) additional turn

• Replace

• First, fasten upper left and lower right bolts, and then tighten all four bolts in a diagonal sequence

9 15 Nm

10 Engine speed (RPM) sensor (G28)

11 Thermostat housing

• For thermostat

12 O-ring

• Replace

13 Coolant thermostat

• Removing and installing => [ Thermostat ] Service and Repair.

• Use the correct installation position => [ Thermostat ] Service and Repair.

• Checking: Heat up thermostat in water

Starts to open: approximately 85° C

Opening end: approximately 105° C

Opens: at least 7 mm

14 45 Nm

• Observe tightening sequence => [ Tightening Sequence, Accessory Bracket to Cylinder Block ]

15 Accessory bracket

• For the generator, power steering pump and A/C compressor

16 Tensioner for ribbed drive belt

• To release tension on ribbed belt, pivot using open-end wrench => [ Ribbed Drive Belt ] Ribbed Drive Belt.

17 25 Nm

18 Oil pan

• Clean sealing surface before installing

• Install with silicone sealant (D 176 404 A2 )=> [ Oil Pan ] Oil Pan.

Tightening Sequence, Accessory Bracket to Cylinder Block





- Place accessory bracket on cylinder block (observe fitting sleeve between bracket and cylinder block).

- Tighten the bracket bolts in tightening sequence as follows:

1. Tighten bolt - A - to 45 Nm

2. Tighten bolt - B - to 45 Nm

3. Tighten bolt - C - to 45 Nm

4. Tighten bolt - D - to 45 Nm

5. Tighten bolt - E - to 45 Nm

6. Tighten bolt - F - to 45 Nm
