Fuel Level Sensor: Testing and Inspection

Fuel Level Sensor, Checking

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

• Hand-held multi-meter (V.A.G 1526B)

• Connector test set (V.A.G 1594C)

Test Sequence

- Remove cover from fuel delivery unit.

- Disconnect 4 pin connector from flange at fuel delivery unit.

- Measure the resistance on both contacts - 2 - and - 3 - on the locking flange:









At a level between "full" and "empty" the resistance value displayed must be between both specified values.

Measure 0 ohms or infinite ohms, then there is an open circuit or a short circuit.

• To check resistance values "tank full" or "tank empty", the => [ Fuel Level Sensor ] Service and Repair, fuel gauge sender must be removed and the floater of the sensor must be placed in upper or lower end position.
