Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Needle bearing drift (VW 295)

Needle bearing drift (VW 295 A)

Thrust pad (VW 447 H)

Thrust pad (VW 512)

Thrust tube (VW 454)

Tube (2040)

Slide hammer-complete set (VW 771) (seal and sleeve are designed as one part)

Additional part for VW 771 (VW 771/37) (seal and sleeve are designed as one part)

Seal installer set - rear diff (3066) (spindle from assembly device)

Thrust pad (3124) (seal and sleeve are designed as two parts)

Thrust piece (T10148) (seal and sleeve are designed as one part)

Driving out needle bearing





Driving in needle bearing to stop





- Secure needle bearing in transmission housing on three points at 120 degree offset using drift.

Driving seal out of guide sleeve





Driving seal into guide sleeve to stop





Pry out sleeve - arrow - using screwdriver





Pulling in sleeve





- Screw spindle - A - of seal installer set - rear diff (3066) into threaded piece of differential.

- Pull in sleeve over thrust pad (3124) until stop by turning nut - B -.

If transmission is disassembled, press sleeve in onto stop using thrust pad (3124).

Pulling out sleeve and seal





A shoulder is located on internal diameter of sleeve.

- When pulling out seal and sleeve, position pulling hook (VW 771/37) behind shoulder in sleeve.

- While pulling out, press pulling hook (VW 771/37 ) forcefully into sleeve.

Pulling in sleeve and seal





- Clean seal seat in transmission.

- Screw spindle - A - of seal installer set - rear diff (3066) into threaded piece of differential.

- Pull in sleeve over thrust pad (T10148) until stop by turning nut - B -.

If transmission is disassembled, press sleeve in onto stop using thrust pad (T10148).

Installing oil collector tray - A - into transmission housing





- Simultaneously insert oil collector tray in bore - arrow 1 - and groove - arrow 2 -.
