Shift Cable Assembly Overview - 0A4, 5 Speed M/T

Note: Lubricate mounting areas and slide surfaces with grease G 000 450 02.





1 - Shift cable
2 - Selector cable
3 - Retaining washer
^ Always renew
4 - Shift housing
5 - Retaining washer
^ Always renew
^ Do not damage cables when removing
6 - Hexagon bolt, 20 Nm
^ Quantity: 3
^ For mounting bracket
7 - Mounting bracket
^ Can be made of plastic or metal
8 - Grommet
^ Mounting bracket to transmission
9 - Spacer
10 - Cable retainer
^ Adjust shift mechanism after installation
^ For selector cable to relay lever
^ Do not interchange, cable locking mechanisms for selector cable on linkage lever and for shift cable on transmission shift lever are different
11 - Cable retainer
^ Adjust shift mechanism after installation
^ For shift cable to transmission shift lever
^ Do not interchange, cable locking mechanisms for selector cable on linkage lever and for shift cable on transmission shift lever are different
12 - Retaining washer
^ Always renew
^ Not needed with the plastic relay lever
13 - Retaining washer
^ Always renew
^ Not needed with the plastic relay lever
14 - Bushing
^ Not needed with the plastic relay lever
15 - Relay lever
^ Adjust shift mechanism after installation.
^ can be made of plastic or metal
^ From 05.07 plastic relay lever
^ The bushings and lock washers are not needed with the plastic relay lever
16 - Slide shoe
17 - Transmission shift lever
^ With balance weight
^ Adjust shift mechanism after installation.
18 - Self-locking nut, 23 Nm
^ Always renew





Allocation of Cable Retainers
The holes in the cable retainers have various diameters.

Installing the Transmission Shift Lever
- When positioning the transmission shift lever, make sure the gap -arrow A- is placed over the missing selector shaft teeth -arrow B-.





Installation Position of Transmission Shift Lever/Relay Lever
1 - Transmission shift lever with balance weight
2 - The relay lever engages into the guide rail of the transmission shift lever, via the guide shoe -arrow-.
