Front Windshield Wiper System, Removing And Installing

CAUTION: When disconnecting and connecting battery, the procedure must be followed as described.

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required







- Torque wrench V.A.G 1331







- Pry lever 80-200

Windshield wiper system, removing
- Deactivate APP function
- Operate wipers briefly and allow to move to park position. Switch off ignition.
- Disconnect battery.

NOTE: In order to be able to remove wiper frames with linkages and wiper motor, wiper arms plenum chamber cover, and air guide trim must be removed.

Wiper arms, removing







- Pry off covers -arrows- using a screwdriver.







- Loosen mounting nuts -arrows- but do not remove them completely.
- Fold wiper arm up and loosen it from cone using sideways motions.
- Now unscrew mounting nut completely and bring wiper arm downward.

Removing air guide trim







- Remove mounting bolt -1- and mounting nut -2- of air guide trim -3-.
- Remove air guide trim -3- upward and out of vehicle.

Wiper frame with linkage and wiper motor, removing







- Disconnect electrical connection -1-.
- Remove mounting bolts -arrows- and swing wiper arms -2- upward and out of vehicle.

Removing wiper motor from wiper frame







- Pry off ball head -arrow- of linkage -1- from motor crank using pry lever 80-200.







- Remove mounting nut -1-.
- Remove motor crank -2- from wiper motor shaft.
- Remove mounting bolts -arrows- and remove wiper motor with control module out of wiper frame.

Installing wiper motor into wiper frame







- Insert wiper motor with control module into wiper frame and secure it with mounting bolts -arrows-.
- Tighten all threaded connections using the specified torques.







- Place motor crank -1- onto wiper motor shaft. Distance -a- to stop -2- must be 3±1 mm.
- Screw motor crank to wiper motor shaft using mounting nut -3-.
- Tighten all threaded connections using the specified torques.







- Push ball head -arrow- of linkage -1- on to motor crank.


Windshield wiper system, installing







- Install wiper frame in reverse sequence. While installing, securing pin -2- of wiper frame must be inserted into grommet -1- on bulkhead.
- Tighten all threaded connections using the specified torques.
- Connect harness connector to wiper motor connection and engage it.
- Install air duct trim in reversed sequence.
- Install plenum chamber cover.
- Reconnect battery.
- Install wiper arms.
