Oil Temperature Sensor/Switch: Testing and Inspection
Oil Pressure and Oil Pressure Switch, Checking
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Oil pressure gauge (VAG 1342)
• Voltage tester (VAG 1527 B)
• Connector test set (VAG 1594 C)
• Function test and service of visual and acoustic oil pressure indicator. Refer to and or VAS 5052 "Guided Fault Finding".
Test Sequence
With Engine Code BKW
- Remove fuel filter. Refer to --> [ Fuel Filter ] .
With Engine Code BWF
- Remove bypass flap with cooler for Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR). refer to --> [ Bypass Flap with Cooler Assembly Overview ] Bypass Flap with Cooler Assembly Overview.
Continuation for All
• When removing oil pressure switch, counter hold banjo bolt so that leaks in the vicinity of the oil line are prevented.
- Remove oil pressure switch (F1) and install it into oil pressure gauge (VAG 1342).
- Install oil pressure gauge into banjo fitting in place of oil pressure switch.
- Connect brown wire of oil pressure gauge to ground (-).
- Connect diode test lamp of voltage tester (VAG 1527 B) to B+ and oil pressure switch using adapter cables from connector test set (VAG 1594 C). LED must not light up.
With Engine Code BKW
- Install fuel filter. Refer to --> [ Fuel Filter ] .
With Engine Code BWF
- Install bypass flap with cooler for EGR. Refer to --> [ Bypass Flap with Cooler Assembly Overview ] Bypass Flap with Cooler Assembly Overview.
Continuation for All
- Start engine and slowly increase engine speed.
- LED must light up at 0.55 to 0.85 bar positive pressure, otherwise replace oil pressure switch (F1).
- Increase engine speed further. At 2000 RPM and an oil temperature of 80 °C, oil pressure must be at least 2.0 bar.
Oil positive pressure must not exceed 7.0 bar at higher engine speeds.
