Luggage Compartment Cover, Locking Pin Broken

The locking pin on the rear shade that retains the luggage compartment floor in the up position may break .





Note:
DO NOT replace the luggage compartment cover for this condition.

Technical Background

Too high mechanical load on the original locking pin for the luggage compartment cover may cause failure.

Production Solution

No production change required.

Service

Install repair kit Part No. 7L6898773 following the procedure.





^ Remove the luggage compartment cover and invert.

^ If necessary, remove the old locking pin from the luggage compartment cover by collapsing the 2 pin retainers.





^ Slide the old locking pin out of the guide.





^ Insure proper spring position inside new locking pin, Part No. 7L6898773.

^ Align locking pin with guide and insert until pin retainers seat

^ Install luggage compartment cover.
