Body - Door Window, Sticks or Operates Sporadically
64 07 06July 30, 2007
2014289 Supersedes T.B. Group 64 number 07-03 dated May 8, 2007 due to window control module software adaptation update using Guided Functions with Brand CD 77 or above.
Condition
Vehicle Information
Door Window, Sticks or Operates Sporadically without Operators Assistance
After closing a front door, the window may open automatically.
When opening door, the window may stick in the roof pillar seal.
Note:
DO NOT replace the window regulator or window regulator motor for this condition.
DO NOT apply procedure to both sides of the vehicle, unless customer concern is with both sides of the vehicle, and the symptom has been verified.
Technical Background
Note:
DO NOT perform adaptation of door control module in Guided Functions with any Brand CD below 77.
Failure to use Brand CD 77 or higher while performing adaptation may result in door control module failure and possible warranty debit.
Window vibration from closing the door allows the window to chaff against the roof pillar seal - as a result the window reverses.
Short drop travel is insufficient.
Production Solution
Improvement of short drop lowering by 2 mm.

Service
Procedure
Perform adaptation of the door control module(s) using Guided Functions before performing Window Travel Basic Settings.
^ Interrogate fault memory of affected door control module(s) using VAS 5051/5052.
^ Clear affected door control module related fault entries with Guided Functions.
^ Perform adaptation of door control module using Guided Functions from Brand CD 77 or above.
After the window control module adaptation is complete, perform Window Travel Basic Settings according to procedure below.
Tip:
The mechanical upper stop of the window regulator is the reference for the control unit for the initialization (learning of window position), not the upward window pressure in the seal.
^ Check the window adjustment according to the Repair Manual, see Group 64 Glazing/window mechanism, Door Window in ElsaWeb.
Tip:
Ensure adjustments in Y (lateral incline) and Z (height adjustment).
If window does not need adjustment:
^ Perform Window Travel Basic Settings procedure below.
If window needs adjustment:
^ Readjust window according to the Repair Manual, see Group 64 Glazing/window mechanism, Door Window in ElsaWeb.
^ Perform Window Travel Basic Settings procedure below.
Determine the short drop travel and the free play according to the following procedure:
^ While door is open, lock rotary latch of the door lock. The window will move to its highest position.
^ Stick a piece of adhesive tape approximately 10 cm (4 in.) above the channel strip (see illustration) on outside of window.
^ Measure and mark a line on the tape 10 cm from the outside window seal as shown
^ Open the rotary latch on the outer or inner door handle - the window lowers itself a little.
^ Measure and mark another line on the tape 10 cm from the outside window seal as shown
^ Measure the distance between the two marks on the adhesive tape - this is the performed short drop.
^ Apply slight pressure from above on the window edge (see illustration) and draw a mark at a height of 10 cm (4 in.) on the tape (see illustration 4, highest line).
^ Distance between line 1 and 2 should be less than 5 mm (approx. 1/4 in.). If the distance is greater then manual retensioning of the cable length adjuster is necessary.
As necessary, tension the cable length adjuster manually.
Retension the cable length adjuster:
^ Remove door trim and subframe according to Repair Manual, see Repair Manual Group 70 Trim, noise insulation, Door and side trim in ElsaWeb.
^ Restore electric function of window regulator motor (connection to the window regulator switch).
^ Lower window to the bottom stop.
^ Press down on the spring (arrow) by hand.
^ Place lever tool 80-200 (1) on the base unit of the cable length adjuster and hold down the spring (arrow) with lever.
^ Place pliers 3392 (2) over wedge tool (1), as shown in illustration.
^ Carefully squeeze pliers 3392 (2) until cable length adjuster audibly latches (clicks), Do not apply too much force.
Tip:
Adjustment per latch (click) is 2 mm. Depending on the free play an adjustment of 1-3 latches may be necessary.
^ Check the function of window regulator.
^ Install subframe and door trim according to Repair Manual, see Repair Manual Group 70 Trim, noise insulation, Door and side trim in ElsaWeb
^ Perform Window Travel Basic Settings.
Window Travel Basic Settings
Tip:
Door MUST be closed before performing Basic Settings procedure
^ Close door.
^ Start vehicle.
^ Run window travel down to the lowest point.
^ Raise window approximately 1/3 travel and restrict glass upward travel until pinch protection activates.
^ Raise window to full travel and hold switch in the upward position for 5 seconds after full up window travel is obtained.
^ Release window switch and open door.
^ Basic Settings is now complete.
