Roof Pillar, Installing

Pay attention to the gap dimension when tightening the screw.

All screws are microencapsulated and must always be replaced.







Screw - 5 - is shorter than the other screws. When installing, ensure correct screw is used.

If a longer screw is inserted in this position, roof pillar will be damaged.

- Install the bracket - 1 - in the door. Install the seal under the rear window frame in the rear.

- Install all screws, but do not tighten.






- Raise rear window frame - 1 -.

- Tighten the screw - 3 -, tightening specification: 9.5 Nm.

- Apply a thin ring to water drain pipe with 1K Adhesive (D 469 101 A3). Adhesive must not enter the pipe.

- Slide water drain hose onto water drain pipe and secure cable ties.

Check gap dimensions for each fastened screw.

Screw - 7 - must be positioned precisely on applied marking. The position of this screw adjusts the side pivoting of roof pillar.






- Close the roof, but not far enough that it locks.

- Check gap dimensions. Refer to => [ Roof Pillar Gap Dimensions ]

- Remove screws - 6 and 8 - in main hinge - 2 -. Tightening specification: 9.5 Nm.

- Install screw - 7 - with noted number of spacer plates on marked position in locking mechanism - 3 -. Screw tightening specification: 9.5 Nm

- Install "short" screw - 5 - in locking mechanism - 3 -. Screw tightening specification: 9.5 Nm

- Remove the roof pillar support (VAS 6367).

When the luggage compartment trim is installed, make sure the support is not positioned in the opening on the longitudinal member.

To support roof, both sides of luggage compartment trim should be either removed or installed.

The bypass screw on the hydraulic pump must be opened after the repair position has been reached on vehicle from May 07. This prevents damaging the hydraulic system.






- Open roof with convertible top operating switch until it is just before the position shown.

- Place Hinge Supports (VAS 6365) in lowest position - 2 -.

- Place the hinge supports (VAS 6365) in the mounting hole in the main hinge - 1 - and rotate the base - 4 - so that it is not positioned in the opening in the longitudinal.

- Switch the ignition off. The roof lowers in stages until the supports are resting on the longitudinal member.






- Remove the seal - 2 - in the glass panel area.

The guide rail must be free of dirt and grease.

- Install the water guide foil (D 437 S40 A1) - 1 -.

The water guide foil must seal all around edges of front guide rail - arrows -.






- Press a Butyl Cord (D 450 273 A2) - 3 - formed into a ball on end of guide rail firmly onto water guide foil - 1 -.

- Press a second Butyl Cord (D 450 273 A2) formed into a ball firmly onto water guide foil at a distance of 85 mm - dimension a - to first.

- Check for correct seating of both butyl cords on water guide foil. No gap should be visible between both materials. Butyl cord should not be formed to edge of guide rail.

- Secure seal - 2 - on roof pillar.

- Remove supports and close roof.

- Install roof pillar trim.
