Before troubleshooting or servicing, the technicians must be familiar with the function and operation of the compass system.

For additional information, refer to the Operating instructions.

Use the Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing & Information System (VAS5051B) in "Guided Fault Finding" when servicing or fault finding.

When the battery is reconnected, check any affected system or component (radio, clock, comfort electrical connection etc.) according to the Repair Information and/or the Owner's Manual.

Compass equipment consists of display unit in instrument cluster and the Compass magnetic field sensor (G197) inside the rear lid.

The current compass direction, in which the vehicle is directed, is displayed via the compass display with up to 2 letters (for example, N = north, NW = northwest). 8 different compass directions can be displayed.

Compass direction is displayed via the instrument cluster display.

The compass is automatically calibrated permanently. If the vehicle is equipped with subsequently installed electrical devices (such as cellular telephone, TV, etc.), compass must be calibrated manually after installation. Refer to the Owner's Manual.
