Transmission Oil Level, Checking and Filling
Transmission Oil Level, Checking and Filling
Use the DSG(R) oil as a replacement part. Refer to the Parts Catalog.
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System (VAS 5051 B)
• Used Oil Collecting and Extracting Device (V.A.G 1782)
• Adapter for Oil Filling (VAS 6262 A)
Requirements:
• The vehicle is level and all hoist supports are at the same height.
• The noise insulation has been removed.
• The vehicle diagnosis, testing and information system (VAS 5051 B) is connected
• The oil should not be warmer than 45 °C (113 °F) when starting the procedure.
• Test temperature: 35 - 45 °C (95 - 113 °F).
Checking
- Connect the vehicle diagnosis, testing and information system (VAS 5051 B) and identify the vehicle using Guided Functions.
- Select DSG transmission.
- Select Check Fluid Level.
• Let the transmission cool down if the oil temperature is higher than 45 °C (113 °F).
The engine is idling and the selector lever is in the "P" position.
- Remove the drain plug.
Up to transmission production date "September 20, 2004", transmissions with two plugs were installed.
It is important to not switch the plugs. Remove the plug - A - near the pendulum support only.
Transmissions installed after September 20, 2004, have only one plug - A -.
- Always replace the seal for the drain plug - arrow -.
• Even if the transmission fluid level is too low, at first a small amount of transmission fluid will flow out of the overflow tube, because it fills during operation.
- Let the excess oil drain.
- Install the drain plug with a new seal as soon as all the oil has drained out (it starts to drip).
- If no transmission oil comes out, then fill.
Adding
- Measure the length of the pipe (dimension - a -) before installing the adapter for oil filling (VAS 6262 A) onto the oil bottle, shorten the pipe if necessary. Refer to => [ Shortening the Pipe on the : ] Modifying the Adapter for Oil Filling (VAS 6262 A).
- a - = 210 mm
• Dimension - a - is measured starting from the shaft (green surface) on the adapter for oil filling (VAS 6262 A).
- Install the adapter from the adapter for oil filling (VAS 6262 A) into the plug hole hand tight.
Shake the bottle before opening.
- Fill with 1.0 liter of transmission oil.
- Connect the adapter for oil filling (VAS 6262 A) to the quick release coupling on the adapter.
If oil flows out of the adapter hole:
Oil must not be topped off.
- Let the excess oil drain.
- As soon as the oil has run out (it begins to drip), remove the adapter for oil filling (VAS 6262 A) and install the plug with a new seal.
If no oil flows out of the hole:
- Add another liter of oil.
Too little or too much oil will impair the transmission.
