RVU - Comfort Control Module Software Update (OS)
00 06 14 Oct. 25, 2006, 2013192, Supersedes T.B. Group 00 number 06-09 dated Oct. 18, 2006 due to addition of VIN break, Tip to Step 10 and "Check Only" repair code to Warranty table.
Tip: This Technical Bulletin is in effect for 12 months from date of publication as listed above. After that date, this Technical Bulletin will expire and no longer be in effect. Procedure must be performed ONLY on applicable vehicles in Dealer inventory.
Requirements:
Vehicle must meet ALL of the following criteria:
1. Procedure is valid only for vehicles that show the (OS) code open on the ElsaWeb Campaign / Action Information inquiry screen on the day of repair.
2. Vehicle must be within the Limited New Vehicle Warranty.
3. Procedure must be performed within the allotted time frame stated in this Technical Bulletin.
Topic
A. Inconsistent roof opening operation and possible "open rear locks" message in MFI.
B. Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) is too sensitive and causes TPMS indicator to illuminate in Instrument Cluster.

Service
Input VIN into Elsa and check Campaign / Action Information inquiry screen for open Code (OS).
Checking Software Level
1. Connect VAS tester to vehicle.
2. Turn vehicle ignition to ON position.
3. Activate Vehicle Self Diagnosis from VAS tester.
4. Select diagnostic address "46- Central Module Comfort System".
5. Check software level -arrow-. If software level is:
- at 218 or greater, no further action is required. Close out RVU, see Warranty.
- at 217 or less, continue to step 6.
6. Exit VAS tester.
7. Turn vehicle ignition to OFF position.
8. Go to Updating Software Level
Tip: If programming disc is loaded and software level is 218 or greater. An error screen may appear. If this occurs press okay. The error screen does not indicate a technical concern with the Comfort System Central Control Module -J393-.
Updating Software Level
Tip: For software programming to execute properly, vehicle battery must be maintained by an approved VW battery charger/maintainer. Failure to comply with these guidelines may result in software programming failure.
1. Connect approved VW battery charger/maintainer to vehicle battery.
2. Insert update programming CD, Literature No. W42INSTKUPDATECD, into VAS tester.
3. Turn vehicle ignition to ON position.
4. Activate Vehicle Self Diagnosis from VAS tester and select "On Board Diagnostic (OBD)".
5. Enter diagnostic address "46- Central Module Comfort System".
6. Select "Display all diagnostic functions".
7. Select "Update Programming".
8. Follow instructions for flashing procedure.
9. When flashing procedure is finished a screen appears showing successful programming, -arrow-. Press the forward arrow button to continue.
10. An option will appear to erase DTC memories. Remove the flash CD at this point and skip this procedure by pressing the back arrow button, -arrow-.
Tip: If you do not remove the flash CD from the drive a message box will appear stating: "A malfunction occurred when evaluating the control table or the data container. Update programming is not possible". You may ignore this error by pressing okay as it is not a technical problem with the scan tool, comfort module or vehicle.
11. Select option "007 - Coding (Service 1A)", -arrow-.
12. Select Comfort Module by highlighting and then selecting the forward arrow button, -arrow-.
13. Select byte 0 and change coding from 93 to 13, -arrow-. If byte is already 13: - Skip coding section and proceed to step 15.
14. After entering correct value, select "Q" then forward arrow button. The next screen will ask to perform coding. Select OK.
15. After coding is complete, exit address, and go to main system selection screen. Select "1000 - Read out gateway installation list". Then select "1001 - Compiling Services", -arrow-.
16. Select option to erase entire DTC memory, -arrow-.

For vehicles that, according to your information, cannot be corrected or reached, and one of the codes below best describe the reason, please enter one of the applicable codes into the system:
- OS 20 Customer Refused Repairs
- OS 30 Total Loss
- OS 40 Vehicle Stolen
- OS 50 Vehicle Exported
