Fuel System, Bleeding
• If the fuel supply system was opened, it must always be bled before starting the engine.
• If the fuel supply system is not bled, the catalytic converter will be damaged.
• Observe the rules for cleanliness. Refer to => [ Clean Working Conditions ]. Clean Working Conditions
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Adapter for K-jetronic test device (VAG 1318/20)
• Remote control (VAG 1348/3A)
• Remote control (VAG 1348/3-3)
• Suction pump (VAS 5226)
Procedure
CAUTION!
Fuel system is under pressure!
• Wear protective goggles and protective clothing to prevent injuries and contact with skin.
• Before loosening the line connection, place a cloth around the connection point. Then release pressure by carefully loosening the line.
- Fold the rear seat bench forward.
- Remove the cover from the fuel delivery unit.
- Disconnect the 4 pin electrical connector - 1 -.
- Connect the (VAG 1348/3A) with an adapter cable to terminal - 1 - on the fuel pump and to the battery positive (+). The illustration shows the plastic fuel tank.
- Connect terminals - 4 - of the harness connector and fuel pump using an adapter cable from (VAG 1594C).
- Remove the cap - arrow - from the fuel rail.
- Turn valve on the (VAG 1318/20) counterclockwise until it is completely open.
- Install (VAG 1318/20-1) onto (VAG 1318/20).
- Install (VAG 1318/20) onto the fuel rail bleeder valve hand tight.
- Connect the hose from the (VAS 5226) as shown.
- Turn the valve on the (VAG 1318/20) clockwise into the bleeder valve until it stops.
- Check the connections for leaks.
- Operate the (VAG 1348/3A) until fuel flows out of the bleeder valve without bubbles.
- Turn the valve on the (VAG 1318/20) counterclockwise until it is completely open again.
- Clamp the hose from the (VAS 5226) (for example, using (3094)) and disconnect it from the (VAG 1318/20-1).
- Remove the (VAG 1318/20) from the fuel rail bleeder valve.
