Service
Service Sections:
- Prerequisites
- Replacement of Electronic Steering Column Lock Control Module (ESCL) -J764- and Comfort System
- Central Control Module -J393- (Together)
- Additional Functions
Prerequisites
- VAS 5051 with Brand CD version 15.94 or higher. VAS 5052 may also be used with an AC adaptor. A 110V AC connection for the scan tool must be used as battery voltage is critical.
- Internet connection within reach of the vehicle (wireless connection IS NOT permitted).
- Retrieve, if possible, long coding of -J393- and short coding of ABS Control module -J104-.
NOTE: If long coding is not retrievable, continue with installation of new parts and adaptation.
TIP: A long coding job aid can be found on ServiceNet under Support for additional information on how to retrieve coding.
NOTE: Prior to launching VAS-PC application and starting control module update process, confirm tester screen saver and power settings in accordance with Special Tools and Equipment - Service Information Document # VSE-18. Failure to do so may result in the tester entering power save mode during data transfer, and subsequent control module failure.
Replacement of Electronic Steering Column Lock Control Module (ESCL) -J764- and Comfort System Central Control Module -J393- (Together)
NOTE:
- Notify customer that all vehicle keys MUST be present for adaptation purposes.
- Disconnecting scan tool during a test plan may result in comfort system central control module -J393- and/or J764- failure. Replacement of failed components a second time will be dealer responsibility.
- The battery must be tested using the Midtronics tester before the adaption process begins. A failed battery must be replaced before this procedure is started.
- Disconnect battery.
- Replace Steering Column.
- Replace Comfort Convenience Module. See Front Doors, Central Locking System.
- Connect battery.
- Connect the Midtronics In-Charge 940 (INC-940) tester/charger to maintain voltage of 12.5V - 14.5V.
- Perform "GFF Collection Service" (this must be performed to code the comfort module online).
- Select "Go to" and "Function / Component Selection".
- Select Chassis -> Electrical System -> 01 Systems capable of self-diagnosis - > Immobilizer -> Immobilizer functions -> Adaptation of ESCL and Immobilizer" (Figure 2).
Key Points to Remember
- Key position is critical to performing adaption procedure. Follow GFF directions exactly or else module failure may occur.
- Country code 444 must be used for United States vehicles and 999 used for Canadian vehicles. DO NOT use "USA" or "Canada" or any other variation except for what is stated.
- DO NOT attempt to start vehicle until online connection is terminated.
- Once adaptation is complete and the online connection has been completed, verify that vehicle starts with each key adapted.
NOTE: If vehicle starts and then stalls, select Go to Select Function/Component selection>adaptation for replacement of engine control module.
- Once keys are adapted, proceed to Additional Functions to complete repair.
