Lane Assist
Lane Assist
Lane assist helps the driver keep the vehicle in its lane.
In the active mode, the course of the road is recognized and the electromechanical drive for the power steering corrects the steering if the vehicle starts to leave the recognized driving lane.
If correcting the steering is insufficient to keep the vehicle within the lane, the electromechanical drive for the power steering will start to make the steering wheel vibrate, which the driver will be able to feel as a warning on the steering wheel. In addition to that, an electronic gong will sound and a warning message will appear in the display in the instrument cluster.
If it is necessary to change lanes, for example when passing another vehicle or turning, the lane assist is temporarily switched to the passive mode when the turn signal is activated. The lane assist switches itself back on again by itself when the turn signal is switched off and the driving lane is recognized once again.
The camera and directional stabilization assistance control module (J759) are installed in one housing. The entire unit must be replaced if the camera or control module is faulty.
The directional stabilization assistance control module is installed at the center of the top edge of the windshield at the level of the interior rearview mirror. It is secured in a bracket that is bonded to the windshield.
Changes that restrict the visual area of the camera (such as applying labels, stone damage) can lead to malfunctions.
The driver assistance systems button (E617) is located on the end of the short steering column switch under the turn signal lever. Pressing the button switches the system on and off.
If the driver assistance systems button is faulty, then the steering column combination switch (E595) must be replaced complete.
• If the camera can no longer recognize the lane markings due to poor visibility, this could be caused by:
• The camera visual field is dirty or icy. If that is the problem, it should be corrected.
• The camera view field in fogged over.
• Due to the condition of the road (for example, the road is covered with snow or there is construction), there are no clear lane markers.
If the camera lens is obstructed by a lot of dirt on the inside, then lens must be cleaned by hand. To do this, remove the control module and the lens screen and clean the front window using cleaning solution.
For the lane assist to function correctly, it is absolutely necessary that the calibration be correct.
The lane assist must be re-calibrated for the following reasons:
• No or incorrect basic setting/adaptation is stored in the DTC memory.
• The directional stabilization assistance control module (J759) was replaced.
• The windshield was replaced or removed.
• The rear axle toe was adjusted.
• Work was performed on the chassis which influences the body height.
• The vehicle level sensor was readapted on vehicles with electronic damping regulation.
• Before calibrating the lane assist, check the DTC memory and correct any faults.
• To calibrate the lane assist, the geometric drive axle of the vehicle must be determined. It serves as a reference point for the setting device (VAS 6430).
• The lane assist must only be calibrated using alignment equipment approved by VW/Audi!
• Only use the (VAS 6430) to calibrate the lane assist.
