Front Ashtray or Front Compartment

Removal

- Switch off ignition.

Vehicles with manual transmission

- Open the ashtray

- Remove the boot with the plastic frame from the center console frame - 1 -- arrow -, to do this, use the special hook (3370).

- Hold the center console bracket tight - 1 -.

Do not remove it.

The connectors for various switches could unintentionally be loosened.





- Fold the boot upward over the shift knob.

- Remove gear selector insulation - 1 - from shifter guide rail.

• To provide a better illustration, the shifter knob and boot are not shown in the illustration.

• Note - arrow - when installing insulation, it must point in direction of travel.





Vehicles equipped with automatic transmission or with DSG transmission.

- Remove the shift cover and hold it to the side.





• For releasing the shift cover, the arrow in the illustration is not important.

All vehicles

- Remove shifter cover - 1 - upward out of center console.

- Depending on vehicle equipment, disconnect wiring harnesses - 2 - and - 3 - from cover.





• The heating or cooling mechanism is not shown in the illustration.

- Remove ashtray insert - 1 - or compartment - 2 -.

- remove two screws - 3 - and - 4 - (1.5 Nm).

- Remove ashtray - 5 - or storage compartment - 6 - from center console and disconnect wiring harness if necessary.





Installation

- To install, perform the steps used for removal in reverse order.
