Test Box, Connecting For Wiring Test

Requirement
- Ignition switched off.

Connecting test box to wiring harness of Engine Control Module (ECM)

Recommended special tools and equipment e.g.:







- V.A.G 1598/42 test box







- V.A.G 1598/39 adapter cable

Work procedure for Engine Control Module (ECM)
- Disengage corresponding harness connectors from Engine Control Module (ECM) and disconnect, replace ECM.

60-pin connector







- Connect V.A.G 1598/39-1 adapter cable to 60-pin harness connector of wiring harness and to test box V.A.G 1598/42 input "A".

Engine Control Module (ECM) is not connected.
- Connect alligator clip of test box to Ground (GND) terminal of battery.

94-pin harness connector







- Connect V.A.G 1598/39-2 adapter cable to 94-pin harness connector of wiring harness and to test box V.A.G 1598/42 input "A" and "B".

Engine Control Module (ECM) is not connected.
- Connect alligator clip of test box to Ground (GND) terminal of battery.

NOTE: When harness connectors are disconnected from the Engine Control Module (ECM) or the battery is disconnected, all adaptation values in the control module are erased. DTC memory content will remain intact however. If the engine is started after this, rough, uneven idle can result. In this case, the readiness code must be generated again. Connecting test box to wiring harness of Transmission Control Module (TCM)

Recommended special tools and equipment e.g.:







- V.A.G 1598/22 test box

Work procedure for Transmission Control Module (TCM)
- Remove wheel housing liner, left front.







- Then open locking mechanism of connector and disconnect connector from control module -arrow-.
- Remove control module.
- Connect test box (V.A.G 1598/22) to control module wiring harness and lock.
