Ignition, Assembly Overview





NOTE: Components marked with * are tested via On Board Diagnostic (OBD), Diagnostic mode 3: Check DTC memory.

1 - Ignition Coil 1 with Power Output Stage -N70-*, Ignition Coil, 2 with Power Output Stage -N127-*, Ignition Coil, 3 with Power Output Stage -N291-*, Ignition Coil, 4 with Power Output Stage -N292-*, Ignition Coil, 5 with Power Output Stage -N323-* and Ignition Coil, 6 with Power Output Stage -N324-* 1
- Checking.
2 - Connector
- Black, 4-pin
- before disconnecting, mark allocation of connector to component
3 - Bracket
- For harness connector of Knock Sensor (KS) 1 -G61-
4 - 20 Nm
5 - Connector
- black, 3-pin
- Terminals of sensor and connector are gold-plated
6 - Camshaft Adjustment Valve 1 -N205-*
- for intake camshaft
- before disconnecting, mark allocation of connector to component
- Checking camshaft adjustment valve -1-.
7 - Camshaft Adjustment Valve 1 (exhaust) -N318-*
- For exhaust camshaft
- before disconnecting, mark allocation of connector to component
- Checking camshaft adjustment valve -1-.
8 - Knock Sensor (KS) 1 -G61-*
- Terminals of sensor and connector are gold-plated
- Component location: Cylinder block, exhaust side
- contact surfaces between knock sensor and cylinder block must be free of corrosion, dirt and grease
- Checking
9 - 20 Nm
- Tightening torque affects function of Knock Sensor (KS)
10 - Exhaust camshaft adjuster
- Identification: 32 A
- Rotate engine only with camshaft adjuster installed and chain installed
- with sensor wheel for Camshaft Position (CMP) Sensor 2 -G163-
11 - Cover piece
- Can be removed and installed with the engine installed
- Coat sealing surface with sealant (D 176 501)
- Install all mounting bolts and tighten to 8 Nm
12 - Connector
- black, 3-pin
- Terminals of sensor and connector are gold-plated
- before disconnecting, mark allocation of connector to component
13 - 10 Nm
14 - Camshaft Position (CMP) Sensor 2 -G163-*
- For exhaust camshaft
- Terminals of sensor and connector are gold-plated
- Checking
15 - Seal
- Replace
16 - Camshaft Position (CMP) Sensor -G40-*
- for intake camshaft
- Terminals of sensor and connector are gold-plated
- Checking
17 - Knock Sensor (KS) 2 -G66-*
- Terminals of sensor and connector are gold-plated
- Component location: Cylinder block, intake side
- contact surfaces between knock sensor and cylinder block must be free of corrosion, dirt and grease
- Checking
18 - Connector
- black, 2-pin
- Terminals of sensor and connector are gold-plated
19 - Intake-camshaft adjuster
- Identification: 24E
- Rotate engine only with camshaft adjuster installed and chain installed
- with sensor wheel for Camshaft Position (CMP) Sensor -G40-
20 - Spark plug, 20 Nm
- Type and spark plug gap, test data, spark plugs
- Remove and install using 3122 B spark plug wrench
21 - Control housing
- For camshaft adjustment
