Affected Vehicles

Condition

Airbag, MIL ON, Sensor Fault

Customer states that the Airbag Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) -K75- is illuminated.

Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) 01738 008 - Drivers Front Airbag Crash Sensor -G283- implausible signal - is stored in the Airbag Control Module -J234-.

Technical Background

The condition may be caused by an internal communication error which prevents the Airbag Control Module -J234- from properly recognizing the Drivers Front Airbag Crash Sensor -G283-.

NOTE:
Even with the Airbag MIL ON, for the DTC listed, Airbag Control Module -J234- operation is not effected and will operate as designed in the event of a crash.

Production Solution

New Airbag Control Module -J234- software from VIN 3C_7PO44215 and from VIN 3C_7E057842.

Service

Warning:
Testing, removing, installing and servicing may ONLY be performed by qualified personnel. Battery Ground (GND) cable must be disconnected before performing any work on the Airbag system. No waiting time is required after disconnecting the battery. When connecting Airbag system to a voltage source, no one should be in the vehicle interior.

^ Disconnect the battery ground cable

Tip:

The Airbag Control Module -J234- is located under center of instrument panel.
