Drive Axle Assembly Overview, with Triple Roller Joint AAR3300i





1 Outer Constant Velocity Joint

• Replace only as complete unit.

• Removing, refer to => [ Removing Outer Constant Velocity
Joint ] Drive Axle With Triple Roller Joint AAR3300i.

• Installing: Drive onto shaft using plastic hammer until expanded securing ring contracts.

• Checking, refer to => [ Outer Constant Velocity Joint, Checking ] Outer Constant Velocity Joint, Checking.

2 Bolt

• M16 x 1.5 x 80

• Hex head bolt: 200 Nm + 180° turn

• Twelve-point bolt: 70 Nm + 90° turn

• Always replace after removal.

CAUTION!
Vehicle must not be standing on its wheels when loosening or tightening.

3 Securing Ring

• Always replace after removal.

• Insert in shaft groove.

4 Spacer

• Installed position, refer to => [ Installed Location: Spring Washer
and Thrust Washer on Outer Joint ] Drive Axle With Triple Roller Joint AAR3300i.

5 Dished Washer

• Installed position, refer to => [ Installed Location: Spring Washer
and Thrust Washer on Outer Joint ] Drive Axle With Triple Roller Joint AAR3300i.

6 Clamp

• Always replace after removal.

• Tensioning, refer to => [ Tightening Hose Clamp on Outer
Joint ] Drive Axle With CV Joint VL100.

7 CV Boot

• Check for tears and scuffing.

• Material: Hytrel (Polyelastomer).

8 Clamp

• Always replace after removal.

• Tensioning, refer to => [ Tensioning Clamp on Small Diameter ] Drive Axle With CV Joint VL100.

9 Drive Axle

10 Clamp

• Always replace after removal.

• Tension using hose clamp pliers (V.A.G 1275).

11 Protective Joint Boot for Triple Roller Joint

• Check for tears and scuffing.

12 Clamp

• Always replace after removal.

• Tension using hose clamp pliers (V.A.G 1275).

13 Triple Roller Star with Rollers

The chamfer - arrow - points to drive axle splines.

14 Securing Ring

• Always replace after removal.

• Insert in shaft groove.

15 Joint Piece

• For automatic transmission.

16 Securing Ring

• Always replace after removal.

17 Bolt

• First pre-tighten to 10 Nm in a diagonal sequence, then tighten to tightening specification in a diagonal sequence.

M10 bolt: 70 Nm
