Camshaft, Lifters and Push Rods: Testing and Inspection
Valve timing, checking
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
^ Camshaft bar T10068 A
Test sequence
- Remove insulation pan.
- Set crankshaft to TDC No. 1 Cyl. marks by turning crankshaft on vibration damper securing bolt in engine direction of rotation - arrow -.
- Bring lock carrier into service position. Setting Lock Carrier Service Position
- Remove intake manifold.
- Remove cylinder head cover.
- It must be possible to insert camshaft bar T10068 A into both shaft grooves.
If camshaft bar cannot be inserted:
- Turn crankshaft over in direction of rotation one time.
Note:
^ If the camshaft ruler still cannot be inserted, turn crankshaft in direction of engine rotation until approximately 5 mm above TDC position cyl. 1 (limited via tolerances of drive chains).
Verify installation markings of camshaft adjuster with markings on control housing:
- Markings - A and B - on camshaft adjusters must match notches - arrows - of control housing - C -. Markings on control housing
- Distance between tooth - 1 - and tooth - 2 - of camshaft adjuster must be exactly 16 rollers of camshaft roller chain.
If markings do not match:
- Adjust valve timing.
If markings match:
- Install cylinder head cover.
- Install intake manifold.
